We present the practical step-by-step procedure for constructing canonical gravitational dynamics and kinematics directly from any previously specified quantizable classical matter dynamics, and then illustrate the application of this recipe by way of two completely worked case studies. Following the same procedure, any phenomenological proposal for fundamental matter dynamics must be supplemented with a suitable gravity theory providing the coefficients and kinematical interpretation of the…

Gravity actions from matter actions

- Physics
- 2014

Starting from classical matter dynamics on a smooth manifold that are required to be predictive and quantizable, we derive a set of ‘gravitational master equations’ that determine the Lagrangian…

Gravitational closure of matter field equations

- Physics

The requirement that both the matter and the geometry of a spacetime canonically evolve together, starting and ending on shared Cauchy surfaces and independently of the intermediate foliation, leaves…

Fermions in the Asymptotic Safety Program

- 2020

For the asymptotic safety mechanism to be able to operate the existence of a suitable renormalization group fixed point is crucial. This fixed point governs the high energy behavior of theory and…

Causal propagation of constraints in bimetric relativity in standard 3+1 form

- PhysicsJournal of High Energy Physics
- 2019

Abstract
The goal of this work was to investigate the propagation of the constraints in the ghost-free bimetric theory where the evolution equations are in standard 3+1 form. It is established…

Bimetric interactions based on metric congruences

- Physics
- 2019

In massive gravity and bigravity, spin-2 interactions are defined in terms of a square root matrix that involves two metrics. In this work, the interactions are constructed using a congruence matrix…

Clocks and Chronogeometry: Rotating Spacetimes and the Relativistic Null Hypothesis

- PhysicsThe British Journal for the Philosophy of Science
- 2020

Recent work in the physics literature demonstrates that, in particular classes of rotating spacetimes, physical light rays in general do not traverse null geodesics. Having presented this result, we…

Gravitational properties of light - The gravitational field of a laser pulse

- Physics
- 2015

The gravitational field of a laser pulse of finite lifetime, is investigated in the framework of linearized gravity. Although the effects are very small, they may be of fundamental physical interest.…

Gravitational radiation from birefringent matter dynamics

- Physics
- 2020

We present the second-order gravitational dynamics for a spacetime inhabited by matter fields which feature vacuum birefringence. The derivation follows a perturbative variant of the covariant…

Covariant constructive gravity: A step-by-step guide towards alternative theories of gravity

- Physics, Mathematics
- 2020

We propose a step-by-step manual for the construction of alternative theories of gravity, perturbatively as well as nonperturbatively. The construction is guided by no more than two fundamental…

Gravitational dynamics for all tensorial spacetimes carrying predictive, interpretable and quantizable matter

- Physics, Mathematics
- 2012

Only a severely restricted class of tensor fields can provide classical spacetime geometries, namely those that can carry matter field equations that are predictive, interpretable and quantizable.…
