Explore Shakespeare's works like never before

or use Advanced Search

Welcome to the new website of Shakespeare's Words, the online version of the best-selling glossary and language companion.

The site integrates the full text of the plays and poems with the entire Glossary database, allowing you to search for any word or phrase in Shakespeare's works, and in particular to find all instances of all words that can pose a difficulty to the modern reader.

We are constantly tinkering with the site, and adding to it as best we can. For example, in 2012 we restructured our main menu, giving separate prominence to the Language Companion features, and added whole-sentence glosses to all the Latin utterances in the plays.

Many thanks indeed to those of you who have contributed to the site - these contributions help us maintain and update the site (ahem) as you like it.

We hope you enjoy using it.
